The Deacon and the Machine
What diaconal work looks like when software handles the paperwork and the deacon is left with the people.
The office of deacon was created to solve an administrative problem. The apostles were spending their days on the daily distribution, and the Word was being neglected. Acts 6 hands the tables to seven men so the preaching can go on.
Two thousand years later the tables have become spreadsheets, sign-up forms, and benevolence requests. Much of that work can now be done by software, and done well.
The machine can keep the ledger. It cannot sit with the widow.
